Family films are often the hardest to pull off. They need to entertain younger audiences while still offering enough heart, humor, and adventure to keep everyone else invested. Robbery at the Rockvale Theatre does exactly that, delivering a charming mystery packed with memorable characters, genuine laughs, and a heartfelt celebration of friendship, family, and following your dreams.
At the center of the story is Seth, wonderfully played by Brycen Patterson, a teenager who dreams of one day making it on the stage. Patterson brings warmth, sincerity, and quiet determination to the role, making Seth instantly likable and easy to root for. Audiences who remember him as the intimidating antagonist in The Wildman of Shaggy Creek will be delighted to see him showcase an entirely different side of his talent here. It's a confident, engaging lead performance that highlights just how versatile he is as a young actor.
Standing right beside him is Ayla Bullington as Andi, one of the film's true standouts. Andi isn't simply the supportive younger sister - she's often the emotional heart of the entire investigation. Bullington gives the character remarkable confidence, warmth, and impeccable comic timing. Whether she's encouraging Seth, calming tense situations, or delivering perfectly timed lines like, "He has to poop!", she always seems to know exactly the right thing to say. A huge part of that charm comes from David Dupre, whose performance as the delightfully eccentric Monsieur turns the detective story into something truly memorable. Monsieur quickly becomes the indispensable third member of the investigative team alongside Seth and Andi. His oversized confidence, dramatic personality, razor-sharp deductions, and complete lack of social tact generate some of the film's funniest moments, while his unlikely friendship with the siblings becomes increasingly enjoyable to watch. The chemistry between the three young leads is one of the film's greatest strengths.
The supporting cast adds even more personality throughout the adventure. Josh Futcher brings warmth and authenticity as Principal Paloni, balancing fatherly compassion with the responsibility of leading the school. Danny Arroyo is wonderfully entertaining as Danny, whose love of theater shines through every appearance, while Allee-Sutton Hethcoat brings remarkable poise, charisma, and emotional presence, making every one of her scenes instantly captivating. Together, the cast creates a lively world that feels welcoming, funny, and full of heart.
Without giving away the surprises, the film builds toward a wonderfully staged finale that rewards every clue planted along the way. As the mystery finally comes together on stage, with flashbacks revealing the missing pieces before a live audience, the tension, humor, and emotion all come together beautifully. It's an inventive climax that captures everything the film does best and leaves the audience with a huge smile.
Jesse Edwards directs the film with obvious affection for its young characters, allowing every emotional moment to land without ever losing the playful spirit that defines the adventure. The story celebrates perseverance, teamwork, kindness, and believing in yourself without ever feeling preachy, making its themes feel as natural as the friendships growing on screen.
